Michael Young was elected as a member of the Villa Rica City Council in a Special Election for that seat on November 5, 2019 and was sworn in on November 12, 2019.
Michael and his family came to Georgia in 1996 and lived in Peachtree City until 2001 when they moved to Mirror Lake. He has been a resident of Mirror Lake and Villa Rica for 18 years. He and his wife are currently practicing Travel Planners for Wishdrawals Travel; a third career for him and an adjunct career for his wife since she continues to work full time in her primary career field. Michael’s daughter, son-in-law and three granddaughters live in Villa Rica and his son and grandson live in Carrollton.
Michael has a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Florida Institute of Technology, a Master’s Degree in Management from the University of Texas and a Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University. Michael served in the U.S. Army for nine years attaining the rank of Captain, having been posted to a number of places in the U.S. and Europe. He has also worked around the United States for various Fortune 100 and international companies in logistics, distribution, and supply chain field.
As a resident of Mirror Lake and Villa Rica, Michael has served as a member of the Restore Mirror Lake Group when the dam failed, and the lake drained. He served on the Douglas County Citizen Project Selection Committee to determine the need for a 2016 SPLOST and later to determine the proportional spending recommendations, and he served Villa Rica in the same manner to determine SPLOST spending recommendations. Michael has been active in the city, serving on the Main Street Advisory Board, the Recreation Advisory Commission, the Downtown Development Authority and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Michael is also a member of the Golden City Lions Club here in Villa Rica.
