Matthew Momtahan was sworn in as a member of the Villa Rica City Council on March 26, 2019 after winning a Special Election for the seat. Matthew is Principal at the Momtahan Law Firm practicing civil and real estate litigation. Prior to starting his own firm, he was an associate at Giacoma Schleicher Roberts & Daughdrill, LLC where he focused his practice in the areas of real estate litigation, commercial litigation, zoning and related local government issues.
Matthew and his wife Jessica made Villa Rica their home in 2012 and Matthew has been active in service to the city. Prior to his election to the Villa Rica City Council he served as President of the Villa Rica Main Street Advisory Board, a member of the Villa Rica Development Authority, a member of the Downtown Development Authority, a member of the Villa Rica Convention & Visitors Bureau, a member of UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute’s Downtown Villa Rica Renaissance Strategic Vision and Plan steering committee, and a member of Villa Rica’s Comprehensive Plan steering committee. Matthew remains active through involvement with other volunteer organizations and programs in Villa Rica. Matthew is a 2019 graduate of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Academy.
Matthew is a member of the Carroll County Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, and a 2016 alumni of the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers’ Division Leadership Academy. He is the founder and past President of the West Georgia Young Lawyers’ Association which gained affiliation with the State Bar YLD in 2017 and won the State Bar YLD’s Affiliate of the Year award in 2018. Matthew has also been invited to serve on the State Bar of Georgia’s Unlicensed Practice of Law Investigatory Committee for District 6, which serves Carroll County.
While attending John Marshall Law School, Matthew held internship positions with the law firm of Plumley & Bucci, LLC and the Georgia Attorney General’s Office. He also served as a consultant for the City of Hiram, was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, the Negotiations Competition Team, and a founding member of the Property Law Society. At graduation, he was honored as a recipient of the Pro Bono Service Award for his work with the Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
Matthew graduated from Georgia State University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a bachelor’s degree in Policy Studies concentrating on planning and economic development. While at GSU he was selected to the Georgia Legislative Internship Program for his senior year interning with the House Appropriations Committee, elected President of the Pre-Law Club, and was a staff writer for the student newspaper, the Signal. After completing his studies at GSU, Matthew worked as a Land Use Planner with Paulding County, Georgia.
Matthew has been married to his wife Jessica since 2009 and they enjoy all types of travel from extended vacations abroad to shorter day trips around the southeast. Matthew is an avid supporter of Georgia State basketball and football, and a long time Atlanta Braves fan. Matthew and Jessica adopted their dog Brooks in 2017.
